Hope Teague-Bowling, TU Director of Organizing, shares her experience teaching Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric in her high school English class. She not only addresses the question “Can I, a white woman, do justice teaching a book about racism, microaggressions, and intersectionality?” but puts forth the argument as to why it is imperative that teachers intentionally teach books outside of their comfort zones.
